Abstract(s)
Globalization presents two contradictory but complementary trends, the mass production and the sale of goods in the global market, and differentiation to operate market integration. However, producing value requires its own approach, both in strategic and organizational terms. Strategically, it involves the construction of narratives that operate the linkage to the territory. Organizationally, it involves the construction and maintenance of networks of social actors. The Ameixa D’Elvas (PDO) is a product full of history and significance, but despite investments and direct connection to the World Heritage city of Elvas, it couldn’t until now impose itself on the global market. The objective of this study is to understand the reason for this phenomenon. In order to do so, we have applied semi-structured interviews to representatives of the various stakeholders, followed by thematic content analysis. The results indicate an awareness of the importance of certification and connection to the territory, but simultaneously, impotence in the face of implementation capacity, due to cost, lack of knowledge and support, and more desired than effective cooperation.
