A perceção da comunicação social acerca da atividade policial: o discurso televisivo em grandes eventos de cariz político

Se tradicionalmente os mass media eram analisados isoladamente, o panorama atual vê este tipo de instâncias afirmar a sua amplitude e influência ao nível social e cultural. A preponderância dos órgãos de comunicação social (OCS) é uma evidência. A sociedade contemporânea está de tal forma entrelaçada com os media que deixa de poder ser entendida enquanto entidade alheia a esta realidade. Porque o protagonismo dos media decorre exatamente do facto de se terem imiscuído nos processos culturais e nas operações das instituições. A presença cada vez mais constante e a consequente capacidade de influir na organização social captou a atenção dos atores sociais e continua a lançar o debate em relação ao modo como as suas mensagens são utilizadas e entendidas pelos recetores e quais as consequências dessa exposição. Para quem tem por função zelar pela segurança, entender os moldes em que estes órgãos afetam as relações entre as pessoas e a perceção que têm do poder instituído torna-se uma tarefa fundamental, se tivermos em consideração que a sua atuação está profundamente alicerçada na ideia de legitimidade. Neste sentido foi realizado um estudo descritivo com vista a analisar as notícias transmitidas pelos principais canais televisivos em Portugal, no âmbito de grandes eventos de cariz político ocorridos no ano de 2013. Fazendo recurso da análise de conteúdo, examinou-se a informação disponibilizada por estes OCS para entender os moldes em que a informação referente à atividade policial é emitida para a sociedade. Entre os principais resultados obtidos estão a baixa incidência no discurso por parte das fontes policiais e o grande enfoque dado pelos OCS ao enquadramento e descrição dos eventos
If traditionally the mass media were analyzed separately, the current situation sees this kind of instances assert its breadth and influence at the social and cultural level. The preponderance of the media is an evidence. Contemporary society is so intertwined with the media that it can no longer be understood as oblivious to this reality. Because the role of the media stems precisely from the fact that they are deeply rooted in cultural processes and operations of the institutions. Their ever constant presence and the consequent ability to influence the social organization caught the attention of stakeholders and continues to cast the debate in relation to how their messages are used and understood by the receivers and the consequences of this exposure. For those who have the task of ensuring safety, understanding the ways in which these organs affect relationships between people and their perception of institutional power becomes a crucial task if one considers that its performance is deeply rooted in the idea of legitimacy. In this sense, a descriptive study was performed with the intention of analyzing the news broadcasted by the main television channels in Portugal, in the context of major political events occurred in 2013. Doing feature of content analysis, we examined the information provided by these channels to understand the way in which information related to police activity is issued to society. Among the main results are the low incidence in the discourse by police sources and the great emphasis given by the media to the description of events.
