cuidar.
This Professional Internship report is part of the 3rd Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Palliative Situations at the Porto School of Nursing. The document reflects the development of specialized and common skills of the Specialist Nurse, based on clinical experiences in two contexts of specialized practice in Palliative Care – Intra- Hospital Palliative Care Support Team and Community Palliative Care Support Team, as recommended by the Order of Nurses. The report explores, in a critical-reflective way, the transformations and challenges arising from monitoring patients in their advanced disease processes, highlighting the impact of losses and suffering experienced by caregivers, thus consolidating the development of skills. In an aging society facing an increase in chronic and incurable diseases, Palliative Care plays a fundamental role in providing a humanized approach centred on both the patient and their caregivers. Caregivers' anticipatory grief, as the main theme of this report, is addressed as an element that can positively influence the experience of grief and adaptation to losses, as long as appropriate interventions are implemented that promote emotional support and empowerment of caregivers to face the loss. In this sense, the report integrates a literature review, in order to broaden the understanding of the adaptations inherent to the processes of loss and mourning, which base specialized interventions for the humanization of care processes on evidence and an ethical stance.
