Abstract(s)
utentes portugueses.
Introduction: Given the growing burden of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions in Portugal and the limited response capacity of the healthcare system, digital health interventions (DHI) emerge as a promising tool to improve the efficiency of care. Nevertheless, the levels of use and acceptability of DHI among physiotherapists who manage these conditions in the Portuguese context remain unknown. Objective: To determine and characterize the levels of use and acceptability of DHI, and to identify barriers and facilitators for their use by Portuguese physiotherapists in the management of patients with MSK conditions. Methodology: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out with a sample of 166 Portuguese physiotherapists. An online survey was used to collect data on (a) sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, (b) DHI used to obtain and record clinical information and assist treatment, (c) acceptability of DHI, and (d) barriers and facilitators. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The use of DHI was predominant in documenting clinical information (52.4%, n=87), and to a lesser extent, for obtaining clinical information (31.3%, n=52) and assisting in treatment (24.1%, n=40), with electronic messages being the most used DHI method. Higher levels of acceptability were found for functions such as recording clinical information (97.6%, n=162). The main barriers identified were the characteristics of the patients and the impossibility of hands-on techniques, while the facilitators highlighted the improvement in the quality of the service provided and the possibility of complementing the face-to-face format. Conclusion: The DHI functionalities were considered adequate to address the needs of physiotherapists; however, its use is limited. This study provides a baseline for the development of DHI in physiotherapy for MSK in Portugal, highlighting the importance of actively involving users in its development. Future research should also explore the perspective of Portuguese patients.
