Abstract(s)
organizações, nomeadamente, as policiais.
Technological innovations appeared as a result of something that human beings have been pursuing since the beginning of time: find ways to make everyday life easier. Digital technologies are a logical result of this aspiration and defined certain aspect of daily routines either personal or organizational, including police routines. Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) come as an example of this phenomenon and are used in patrol cars of various police forces worldwide but not in Portugal. Numerous studies state that this kind of technology presents a lot of benefits, per example, in enhancing communication capabilities, improving the quality and quantity of information and making police job more secure. This study aimed to analyse the potentialities of MDT and their application viability in Polícia de Segurança Pública. To do so, a literature review was done, complemented with questionnaires which allowed to present a concetual model where the relationship between the variables were measured with the Structural Equation Model. Results showed that the opinions of the inquired ones are favourable to the application of this technology. In our study we concluded that MDT would contribute to increasing security of police officers, to allow a better communication and, as a result, to improve the police service. To give continuity to this study a practical experience should be done, where the involved would be given the opportunity to experience this technology on the field.
