A sociedade está passando por significativas mudanças, impulsionando organizações a serem mais prósperas e sustentáveis. Diante dos conceitos modernos, nos quais se insere ESG, a preservação do meio ambiente passou ter um papel estratégico. A Força Aérea Brasileira, não obstante a prossecução da missão de manutenção da soberania do espaço aéreo, tem sido impulsionada pela sociedade em outras demandas, aparecendo em destaque a sustentabilidade ambiental e a melhoria da administração dos recursos disponíveis.
O objetivo deste estudo é propor contributos para melhorar a administração em matéria de sustentabilidade, propósito metodologicamente pautado por raciocínio indutivo, assente num desenho de estudo de caso e numa estratégia de investigação mista.
Dos resultados obtidos, concluiu-se que o nível de sustentabilidade ambiental da Força Aérea é mais elevado em gestão dos recursos naturais, na utilização de materiais e tratamento de resíduos, por contraponto com os fatores relacionados aos transportes e educação ambiental. Quanto à relação de economicidade e eficiência verificou-se, respetivamente, que as práticas ambientais produziram resultados na redução de gastos com materiais e com água tratada, porém não teve consistência com a melhoria da eficiência administrativa. Com base na investigação, foram propostas nove linhas de ação, para melhoria da administração do Comando da Aeronáutica.
Society is undergoing significant changes, driving organizations to be more prosperous and sustainable. Faced with modern concepts, which include ESG, the preservation of the environment has taken on a strategic role. The Brazilian Air Force, despite the pursuit of the mission of maintaining the sovereignty of airspace, has been driven by society's aspirations in other demands, appearing environmental sustainability and the improvement of the administration of available resources. The objective of this study is to propose contributions to improve management in terms of sustainability, a purpose methodologically guided by inductive reasoning, based on a case study design and a mixed research strategy. From the results obtained, it was concluded that the level of environmental sustainability of the Air Force is higher in the management of natural resources, in the use of materials and waste treatment, and worse in factors related to transport and environmental education. As for the relationship of economy and efficiency, it was verified, respectively, that the environmental practices produced results in the reduction of expenditures with materials and with water treatment, however they did not have consistency with the improvement of the administrative efficiency. Based on the investigation, nine action lines were proposed to improve the administration of the Air Force Command.
