Abstract(s)
Relationships among children, as well as the social climate in school and in groups, contribute to the well-being and emotional and psychosocial adjustment in childhood, facilitating the development of autonomy and reciprocity. Bullying and aggression and victimization between peers compromise positive social coexistence in schools, as well as children's self-esteem and healthy development. In this sense, a study was carried out with children from the 3rd and 4th year of the 1st cycle of ensino bĂĄsico, in a grouping of schools in Alto Alentejo, in order to understand how they perceive the coexistence between peers, through the application of a peer nomination questionnaire. Preference and rejection indexes were analyzed and intersected in the classes and perceptions regarding the psychosocial attributes of aggression, victimization, pro-social behaviour, leadership and social isolation. The results suggeste similarly to other studies that victimization and aggression are associated with peer rejection and that leadership is associated with either aggression or pro-social behaviour. The data also suggest that, unlike other studies, older children are more victimized in these classes than younger children. At the end it is reflected on ways to improve the social environment in schools and to prevent bullying.
