Abstract(s)
Based on interviews with 21 Portuguese and Brazilian journalists and taking theories of journalism and childhood sociology as a theoretical framework, this article discusses the lack of children’s voice in the news. The minority status of children in society, the news making routines and the business priorities of the media are some of the obstacles to promote children’s point of view in the news discourse. We pointed out some ways to promote this participation based on journalists’ testimony, good practices of some news media and suggestions from children’s rights organizations.
