The purpose of this report is to illustrate the Master's Degree in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto, pointedly describing and reflecting upon the development of the competencies of a Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, based on scientific evidence. Throughout the clinical contexts, skills were developed as a Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, correlated to the documentation and conceiving of nursing care for children/adolescents and parents. Therefore, the Problem-Based Learning methodology was used on the E4Nursing platform, which allowed for an evolution in the ability to systematise the formulation of care, and made it possible to develop decision-making skills based on real problems. In the field of Child Health and Pediatrics, a project was developed focusing on the theme “Shaken Baby Syndrome: Promoting the developmental parental role in ensuring the safety of the newborn”. The approach to this project was based on the interpretative and reflective methodology, which enabled analysis and explanatory pondering on planning, implementation and evaluation of such methods. Shaken Baby Syndrome is a form of child abuse in which the child is shaken continuously and violently, which can cause serious brain damage and trauma. As such, this syndrome has major implications for child development and is responsible for cognitive and motor deficits, as well as speech and visual developmental delays. Nurses are in a privileged position to prevent the occurrence of this syndrome by raising awareness in the community. In this regard, information therapy is an important strategy to adopt, by providing information based on up-todate evidence on this subject. The development of skills as a Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing was a continuous process, fundamental to professional practice, making it possible to improve the quality of the differentiated care provided to both children/adolescents and their parents.por
