- Contributions of the Communication and Management of Bad News in Nursing to the Readaptation Process in Palliative Care: A Scoping ReviewPublication . Moura, Teresa; Ramos, Ana; Sá, Eunice; Pinho, Lara; Fonseca, CésarBackground: Delivering bad news is a sensitive and challenging aspect of nursing healthcare, requiring a holistic approach that respects patients’ preferences, cultural values, and religious beliefs to promote adaptation to the person’s state of health. Aim: We aim to map the evidence of the dimensions present in the communication and management of bad news by nurses to a person in a palliative situation, their caregivers, and their family members. Methods: Based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, the search was conducted through MEDLINE Complete (EBSCOhost), CINAHL Complete (EBSCOhost), SciELO, and the Open Access Scientific Repository in Portugal. From a total of 756 articles, 14 were included, published between 2018 and 2023. Results: Structure components in bad news are influenced by the characteristics of the palliative patients, their caregivers, their family members, the nurses, and the organizational environment. Promoting the quality of the communication process is desirable through continuous and advanced training in end-of-life care, training in bad news, religiously and culturally sensitive nursing interventions centered on hope and maintaining faith, emotional management, and the utilization of a checklist protocol. Conclusions: Honest communication allows people to actively participate in the decision-making process and in the trajectory of the care plan that is focused on themselves and their preferences, which has outcomes in functional capacities and readaptation.
- De Maastricht a NicePublication . Moura, TeresaEste texto analisa três períodos do processo de integração europeia. Começa pelo Tratado de Maastricht – que retoma o voluntarismo dos fundadores da Europa, instituindo uma União Europeia, completada por uma Política Externa e de Segurança Comum e pela Política de Cooperação no domínio da Justiça e Assuntos Internos e que cria a União Económica e Monetária, velha aspiração da Comunidade. Aborda o Tratado de Amsterdão que reforça a garantia dos direitos fundamentais e o poder do Parlamento Europeu, introduzindo, ainda, a figura das cooperações reforçadas – garantindo uma maior eficácia, transparência e democraticidade do processo decisório. Termina com o Tratado de Nice que resolve as questões institucionais pendentes de Amsterdão, no que se refere à ponderação de votos, definição da maioria qualificada no Conselho, repartição de lugares no PE e composição da Comissão. Maastricht foi o primeiro tempo de uma agenda europeia marcada pela interdependência dos problemas, num cenário caracterizado por uma globalização crescente, pela concorrência entre pólos e por uma nova geoestratégia criada pela queda dos regimes de Leste. Amsterdão é um Tratado de meio percurso que desenvolve Maastricht e prepara a reforma de Nice. É este último Tratado que completa um ciclo de aprofundamento do processo de integração, preparando, simultaneamente, a União para o próximo alargamento.

With the aim of disseminating the importance of the multiple growth studies and of their application to improve the knowledge on the biology and dynamics of the commercially exploited species, a summary of the techniques and methodologies applied in the Laboratory of eclerochronology is included.
- Report of the Workshop on Sampling Design and Optimization of fisheries data - WKSDOPublication . Vølstad (IMR), decorreu no IPMAAlgés, de 17 a 20 de Novembro de 2014, para analisar o actual Programa Nacional de Amostragem Biológica (PNAB/Data Collection Framework) com o objectivo de optimizar o programa de amostragem em lota para estimação da composição por comprimento da captura/desembarque das espécies capturadas pela frota nacional, de amostragem das capturas a bordo e da amostragem biológica para estudos de crescimento e reprodução. O Workshop, organizado no âmbito do projecto de investigação nacional GesPe (Planos de Gestão Pesqueira, PROMAR) e do PNAB/DCF, foi planeado e calendarizado tendo em conta o início do processo de revisão do programa Europeu de recolha de dados da pesca de suporte à avaliação e gestão dos recursos pesqueiros (DFC). Foram analisados e discutidos vários métodos e abordagens que resultaram num conjunto de instruções e recomendações para trabalho futuro, relevantes para assegurar uma elevada qualidade e optimização do futuro programa de amostragem.

Silva, Cristina; Azevedo, Manuela; Chaves, Corina; Coelho, Rui; Costa, Ana Maria; Dinis, David; Dores, Sandra; Fernandes, Ana Cláudia; Gonçalves, Patrícia; Lino, Pedro G.; Mendes, Hugo; Moura, Teresa; Nunes, Cristina; Oroszlányová, Melinda; Silva, Daniel Pinto Maria do Carmo; Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, I.P.The Workshop on Sampling Effort for Biological Parameters (WKSEBP), chaired by Manuela Azevedo and Cristina Silva (IPMA) met in Lisbon, 18 – 20 November 2017, to focus on the analysis of the current Portuguese sampling designs under PNAB/DCF (Programa Nacional de Amostragem Biológica/Data Collection Framework) with the aim to optimize the sampling effort and improve precision on the estimation of biological parameters. Several approaches and methodologies were discussed and guidelines for future work were recommended. Four case-studies were analyzed focusing on: 1) survey sampling for length, 2) atmarket sampling for length, 3) estimation of age-length key and 4) maturity ogive. The number of samples, the effective sample size and the precision in parameters estimation were discussed in each case-study.
