- Accounting software for students - An efficient toolPublication . Garcia, Raul RessanoThe aim of this paper is to demonstrate how technology in the classroom can be a useful tool for both students and teachers as far as accounting is concerned. Having in mind my students’ needs I designed an accounting software which allows students to work quickly and more efficiently. With this software students introduce the movements and the software provides the daily journal record, account statements and balance sheets. By doing this, the students can introduce their entries and automatically view the consequences in the account maps of the movements they have just introduced. The software was planned from the beginning to be used for educational purposes only and, as such, it is not subjected to any obligations imposed by law. It was made to run over Access from Microsoft making this software accessible to almost everyone. The software was built using a recursive relationship between a table and itself which assures the sums of the higher level results are presented in lower levels accounts. This way students can make one account entry and immediately see the results in daily journal records, account statements and balance sheets. The outcome is a valid and reliable software. A simple, accurate, straightforward and user-friendly tool which provides immediate feedback to students’ daily launches.
- Análise comparativa entre Serra da Estrela e Serra Nevada: análise das cores das pistasPublication . Garcia, Raul Ressano
- Comparative Analysis of Ski Trail Rating in Serra da Estrela (Portugal) and Sierra Nevada (Spain)Publication . Garcia, Raul RessanoIn Portugal winter tourism is confined to only one mountain called Serra da Estrela. Many Portuguese engage on ski holidays in Spain. The Spanish mountain where more Portuguese skiers go is called Sierra Nevada (Cetursa, 2010). In Europe most of the countries use the same colours to classify the level of the difficulty of the ski slopes. The aim of this paper is to compare the level of the difficulty attributed by the colours of the ski slopes in the Portuguese mountain of Serra da Estrela and the Spanish mountain of Sierra Nevada.
- Serra da Estrela : an approach to the territory, its potential and future for the winter tourism industryPublication . Garcia, Raul RessanoThis paper aims to explore the territory of “Serra da Estrela”, in the North of Portugal, bearing in mind some studies previously undertaken about tourism in the area, mainly focusing on snow tourism. Being snow tourism essentially connected with sports tourism the approach and methodology followed in this article is a sport related one. The literature review which was undergone raised some questions to which answers were sometimes hard to find. Nevertheless, after analyzing some published surveys and getting acquainted with the region, the article provides answers or leads to matters such as: temperature related issues, artificial snow production, renewal of infrastructures, and others. The aim of this article is to initiate a first approach to the territory, get to know its main problems and analyse some proposals to solve some of the latter as suggested by some of the analysed case studies. Personal experience from 35 years of practical experience in winter sports is also provided.
- Ski Slope Security – a new method to help defining the level of difficultyPublication . Garcia, Raul RessanoEach ski slope has a color associated with it. These colors are used to inform the skiers about the difficulty level of the ski slope. The aim of this paper is to help improving the ski slope security by proposing a new method to define the color of a ski slope. Defining and informing the ski slope difficulty, is very important to advice skiers to do not go where they are not prepared to go, avoiding injuries and life lost. By proposing this new method we intent to reduce the subjectivity inherent to the classification of the ski slope. This way it is possible to achieve a bigger normalization on the classification and increase the security of the ski slopes
- Winter tourism in Portugal - encouraging its increasePublication . Garcia, Raul RessanoEvery year between seventy thousand and one hundred thousand Portuguese practice winter sports, mainly skiing and snowboarding (Carvalho, 2006). Unfortunately for Portuguese tourism most of them go abroad to spend their money.Serra da Estrela is the only mountain where it is possible to practice winter sports in Portugal but it doesn’t attract many Portuguese. Problems with accessibility (Petur,2006) inexistency of accommodation near the ski slopes (Carvalho,2006) and not enough kilometers of ski slopes(Tonge, Veronica) are some of the main reasons for this lack of attraction. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that is possible to increment the number of kilometers of ski slopes in Serra da Estrela. To provide the design of the new ski slopes we went to the mountain and marked over a thousand points in GPS. These points marked on the field provide us the information to design the new ski slopes. These new ski slopes will help Serra da Estrela to become more attractive, avoiding the need for Portuguese to go abroad to practice winter sports.
