- Fiducial and differential cross sections of Higgs boson production measured in the four-lepton decay channel in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=8 TeV with the ATLAS detectorPublication . The cross sections are determined within a fiducial phase space and corrected for detection efficiency and resolution effects. They are based on 20.3 fb−1 of pp collision data, produced at s=8 TeV centre-of-mass energy at the LHC and recorded by the ATLAS detector. The differential measurements are performed in bins of transverse momentum and rapidity of the four-lepton system, the invariant mass of the subleading lepton pair and the decay angle of the leading lepton pair with respect to the beam line in the four-lepton rest frame, as well as the number of jets and the transverse momentum of the leading jet. The measured cross sections are compared to selected theoretical calculations of the Standard Model expectations. No significant deviation from any of the tested predictions is found.

In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(−1) collected in 2011, events are selected that are consistent either with two Z bosons decaying to electrons or muons or with one Z boson decaying to electrons or muons and a second Z boson decaying to neutrinos. The ZZ ((*)) → ℓ (+) ℓ (−) ℓ (′+) ℓ (′−) and cross sections are measured in restricted phase-space regions. These results are then used to derive the total cross section for ZZ events produced with both Z bosons in the mass range 66 to 116 GeV, pb, which is consistent with the Standard Model prediction of pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD. The normalized differential cross sections in bins of various kinematic variables are presented. Finally, the differential event yield as a function of the transverse momentum of the leading Z boson is used to set limits on anomalous neutral triple gauge boson couplings in ZZ production.

Both absolute and normalised differential cross-sections are measured, using events with an opposite-charge $e\mu $ pair and one or two b-tagged jets. The cross-sections are measured in a fiducial region corresponding to the detector acceptance for leptons, and are compared to the predictions from a variety of Monte Carlo event generators, as well as fixed-order QCD calculations, exploring the sensitivity of the cross-sections to the gluon parton distribution function. Some of the distributions are also sensitive to the top quark pole mass, a combined fit of NLO fixed-order predictions to all the measured distributions yields a top quark mass value of ${m_t^{\mathrm {pole}}}=173.2\pm 0.9\pm 0.8\pm 1.2$ GeV, where the three uncertainties arise from data statistics, experimental systematics, and theoretical sources.

The measurement is performed in the e and μ channels for invariant masses between 26 GeV and 66 GeV using an integrated luminosity of 1.6 fb(−1) collected in 2011 and these measurements are combined. The analysis is extended to invariant masses as low as 12 GeV in the muon channel using 35 pb(−1) of data collected in 2010. The cross sections are determined within fiducial acceptance regions and corrections to extrapolate the measurements to the full kinematic range are provided. Next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD predictions provide a significantly better description of the results than next-to-leading-order QCD calculations, unless the latter are matched to a parton shower calculation.
- Measurement of the production cross-section of a single top quark in association with a Z boson in proton–proton collisions at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detectorPublication . The proton–proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015 and 2016 at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13TeV are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1fb−1 . Events containing three identified leptons (electrons and/or muons) and two jets, one of which is identified as a b -quark jet are selected. The major backgrounds are diboson, tt¯ and Z+jets production. A neural network is used to improve the background rejection and extract the signal. The resulting significance is 4.2 σ in the data and the expected significance is 5.4 σ . The measured cross-section for tZq production is 600±170(stat.)±140(syst.)fb .

Since W bosons decay to the three lepton generations equally, while $H^+$ may predominantly decay into $\tau\nu$, charged Higgs bosons can be searched for using the violation of lepton universality in top quark decays. The analysis in this paper is based on 4.6/fb of proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Signatures containing leptons (e or $\mu$) and/or a hadronically decaying $\tau (\tau_{had})$ are used. Event yield ratios between $e+\tau_{had}$ and $e+\mu$, as well as between $\mu+\tau_{had}$ and $\mu+e$, final states are measured in the data and compared to predictions from simulations. This ratio-based method reduces the impact of systematic uncertainties in the analysis. No significant deviation from the Standard Model predictions is observed. With the assumption that the branching fraction $B(H^+ \to \tau\nu)$ is 100%, upper limits in the range 3.2%-4.4% can be placed on the branching fraction $B(t \to bH^+)$ for charged Higgs boson masses $m_{H+}$ in the range 90-140 GeV. After combination with results from a search for charged Higgs bosons in ttbar decays using the $\tau_{had}$+jets final state, upper limits on $B(t \to bH^+)$ can be set in the range 0.8%-3.4%, for $m_{H+}$ in the range 90-160 GeV.

No excess over the Standard Model expectation is found. The results are interpreted under the separate assumptions (i) that the top squark decays to a b-quark in addition to an on-shell chargino whose decay occurs via a real or virtual W boson, or (ii) that the top squark decays to a t-quark and the lightest neutralino. A top squark with a mass between 150 GeV and 445 GeV decaying to a b-quark and an on-shell chargino is excluded at 95% confidence level for a top squark mass equal to the chargino mass plus 10 GeV, in the case of a 1 GeV lightest neutralino. Top squarks with masses between 215 (90) GeV and 530 (170) GeV decaying to an on-shell (off-shell) t-quark and a neutralino are excluded at 95% confidence level for a 1 GeV neutralino.
- Search for doubly charged Higgs boson production in multi-lepton final states with the ATLAS detector using proton–proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13\,\text {TeV}$Publication . The search uses a proton–proton collision data sample at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to 36.1 $\text {fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity recorded in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. This analysis focuses on the decays $H^{\pm \pm }\rightarrow e^{\pm }e^{\pm }$ , $H^{\pm \pm }\rightarrow e^{\pm }\mu ^{\pm }$ and $H^{\pm \pm }\rightarrow \mu ^{\pm }\mu ^{\pm }$ , fitting the dilepton mass spectra in several exclusive signal regions. No significant evidence of a signal is observed and corresponding limits on the production cross-section and consequently a lower limit on $m(H^{\pm \pm })$ are derived at 95% confidence level. With $\ell ^{\pm }\ell ^{\pm }=e^{\pm }e^{\pm }/\mu ^{\pm }\mu ^{\pm }/e^{\pm }\mu ^{\pm }$ , the observed lower limit on the mass of a doubly charged Higgs boson only coupling to left-handed leptons varies from 770 to 870 GeV (850 GeV expected) for $B(H^{\pm \pm }\rightarrow \ell ^{\pm }\ell ^{\pm })=100\%$ and both the expected and observed mass limits are above 450 GeV for $B(H^{\pm \pm }\rightarrow \ell ^{\pm }\ell ^{\pm })=10\%$ and any combination of partial branching ratios.

This decay is presumed to occur via an intermediate state which contains one or two on-shell, promptly decaying bosons: $H\rightarrow ZX/XX \rightarrow 4\ell$, where $X$ is a new vector boson $Z_d$ or pseudoscalar $a$ with mass between 1 and 60 GeV. The search uses $pp$ collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. No significant excess of events above Standard Model background predictions is observed; therefore, upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on model-independent fiducial cross-sections, and on the Higgs boson decay branching ratios to vector and pseudoscalar bosons in two benchmark models.

The search uses 36.1 fb$^{−1}$ pp collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider and is performed in final states with jets identified as containing charm hadrons. Assuming a 100% branching ratio to $ c{\tilde{\upchi}}_1^0 $ , top and charm squarks with masses up to 850 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level for a massless lightest neutralino. For $ {m}_{{\tilde{t}}_1,{\tilde{c}}_1}-{m}_{{\tilde{\upchi}}_1^0} $ < 100 GeV, top and charm squark masses up to 500 GeV are excluded.
