Abstract(s)
This internship report, centered on the theme “Spirituality in Palliative Care Patient” aims to document the acquisition of common and specific skills of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in Nursing for Persons in Palliative Situations in a practice context clinic. Among the activities developed, we particularly focus on spirituality in patients undergoing Palliative Care, at home. The holistic nature of the human person requires adequate care and interventions aimed at their spiritual dimension and the relief of spiritual suffering. Patients at the end of life, receiving Palliative Care at home, have a strong connection to their family and/or caregiver(s), and spiritual care must be seen as central. The report is based on a descriptive methodology, based on a critical-reflexive analysis supported by scientific evidence. The implemented project had as a reference the methodology proposed by the Order of Nurses for continuous improvement projects in Nursing. The main results and learning achieved were the acquisition of specific skills of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in Nursing for People in Palliative Situations, in the areas of therapeutic relationships and care for people with incurable or serious illness, in an advanced stage, progressive and terminal of their caregivers/family members, particularly with regard to spiritual care. Therefore, a spiritual assessment protocol was developed with the aim of defining the general lines of action in the spiritual assessment of patients monitored at home, enabling the existence of an integrated individual care plan that addresses the patient's spiritual needs. The entire journey of acquiring common and specific skills, as well as the development of the spiritual assessment protocol, aims to provide an improvement in the quality of services provided to Palliative Care patients.
