Abstract(s)
do MH, metodologias praticadas e resultados obtidos.
The internship took place at Herdade dos Sobrais, located in Santo Aleixo da Restaura- ção, in the municipality of Moura. Its main objectives were to evaluate the changes re- sulting from the implementation of holistic management (MH) in this beef cattle farm, from the year 2020, and to carry out a survey of livestock producers in MH, in the Iberian Peninsula. The changes made at Herdade dos Sobrais were followed, in the tran- sition from traditional management to holistic management. Twelve online surveys were carried out, asking about the characterization of the producer and the exploration, the reasons for choosing the MH, the methodologies used and the results obtained. With the implementation of MH, at Herdade dos Sobrais, the number of fences increased from 8 to 218, the average area of each fence increased from 40.75ha to 1.5 ha, the type of fences changed from mesh to electric fences, the stocking increased from 0.28 CN/ha to 0.43 CN/ha, cork oak and holm oak shoots increased, the use of deworming agents on cattle decreased, and the cost of animal feed decreased. The results of the surveys are globally in line with what happened at Herdade dos Sobrais: the entrepreneurs who responded are mostly young (between 30 and 49 years old), have completed higher education, increased the number of fences, with smaller fences, started to use electric fences, the number of people increased, the docility of the animals increased, the time needed for daily control of the animals decreased, soil fertility increased, the growth of cork oak and holm oak increased, the use of dewormers decreased and the costs with animal feeding also decreased. It can be concluded that the results obtained already re- veal benefits, but the results expected from the implementation of Holistic Management have not yet been fully achieved, as a result of the reduced implementation time, both at Herdade dos Sobrais and on the holdings that responded to the survey.
