Abstract(s)
A sociedade de risco exige um diálogo interdisciplinar por forma a munir os cientistas de uma visão alargada, procurando triangular fontes e áreas do saber, para garantir que a realidade é lida objetivamente, liberta de obstáculos epistemológicos. Assim, para diminuir a subjetividade, a ciência tem combatido aquilo que Boaventura Sousa Santos (2002) designou como especialistas ignorantes, através da (multi)interdisciplinaridade, para mitigar os vazios de conhecimento, num espírito de partilha de ignorâncias. Aqui entronca a Ciência Policial, que se distingue das restantes ciências porque o seu objeto é específico e representa uma abordagem particular da realidade, onde prevalece a Polícia enquanto instituição e as suas relações com a sociedade e o poder político; e o policiamento enquanto processo. A presente Lição Inaugural explora o modo como surgiu a Ciência Policial em Portugal e, posteriormente, o recente reconhecimento pela comunidade científica internacional.
The risk society requires an interdisciplinary dialogue in order to provide scientists with a broad vision, seeking to triangulate sources and areas of knowledge, to ensure that reality is objectively read, freed from epistemological obstacles. Thus, to reduce subjectivity, science has been fighting what Boaventura Sousa Santos (2002) designated as ignorant specialists, through (multi)interdisciplinarity, to mitigate knowledge gaps, in a spirit of sharing ignorance. Here comes the Police Science, which differs from other sciences because its object is specific and represents a particular approach to reality, where the Police as an institution and its relations with society and political power prevail; and policing as a process. This Inaugural Lesson explores the way in which Police Science emerged in Portugal and, subsequently, the recent recognition by the international scientific community.
