Abstract(s)
Numa sociedade globalizada, o turismo assoma como uma das atividades económicas mais
dinâmicas, evidenciando uma tendência de crescimento sustentada. Em Portugal, esta
realidade repercute-se de forma mais evidente, pelo destaque internacional que o país tem
granjeado, impactando inequivocamente na economia nacional.
A segurança, neste contexto, assume-se como um fator crítico de competitividade, pela
relevância para as escolhas dos turistas. Incidentes como a criminalidade e o terrorismo,
entre outros, têm o potencial de causar danos consideráveis na reputação dos destinos
turísticos.
O policiamento orientado para o turismo, enquanto especialização da atividade policial, vem
emergindo como um modelo de atuação eficiente, profícuo e catalisador da perceção de
segurança dos turistas.
Destacando-se como força de segurança com a competência para o policiamento nas maiores
cidades do país, polos turísticos por excelência, a Polícia de Segurança Pública, assume
particular importância e responsabilidade para a segurança do setor.
Com este estudo qualitativo, de caráter exploratório, almejámos aquilatar a atual estratégia
adotada pela instituição e, consequentemente, a pertinência da implementação de um modelo
de policiamento orientado para o turismo, assente em equipas especializadas. Os dados
recolhidos nas entrevistas aplicadas a dirigentes e comandantes policiais apontam no sentido
da necessidade de aprimorar a atual estratégia.
In a globalized society, tourism emerges as one of the most dynamic economic activities, displaying a sustained growth trend. In Portugal, this reality is mirrored in a more profund way, by the international prominence that the country has gained, unequivocally impacting the national economy. Security, in this context, is a critical competitiveness feature, due to the relevance in tourists’ travel decisons. Incidents such as crime and terrorism, among others, may potentialy cause substantial damage to the tourist destinations reputation. Tourism-oriented policing, being an specialization of police activity, has emerged as an efficient and fruitful solution, catalyst for tourists' security perception. Standing out as the police force responsible for policing the country’s major cities, tourist hubs par excellence, the Public Security Police shoulders particular importance and responsibility for the safekeeping of the sector. With this exploratory qualitative study, we sought to assess the current strategy adopted by the institution and, consequently, the relevance of implementing a tourism-oriented policing model, based on specialized units. The data collected by interviews applied to police commanders and senior officers point towards the need to improve the current strategy.
