Abstract(s)
Leadership is assumed as one of the main assets of organizations and transformational leadership has been identified as an effective way to address organizational change processes, because in its purest form, transformational leadership is about leading an organization through change. The central theme of this work is the study of transformational leadership and its relationship with organizational change, in the military context. For that, we chose as case study for the development of our research, the Combined Arms School, a staff training unit of the Portuguese Army recently established in result of the merger of extinct Units, therefore subject to a thorough process of change, with individual and organizational reflexes. We resorted to the application of two instruments for data collection by questionnaire at Combined Arms School, in order to evaluate how the style of leadership exercised by direct chiefs have influence on that organizational change process. The findings allowed us to conclude that the Officers and Sergeants of Arms School perceive in their direct chiefs mostly traits of transformational leadership, and that this constitutes an influencing factor in how they perceive the undergoing change process and are readiness to that.
