O mundo vive um período de grandes incertezas e instabilidades. Questões políticas, ambientais e socioeconómicas têm mudado a forma como as pessoas vivem e a forma como os modelos de negócios e infraestruturas são desenhadas. Com uma população conectada graças aos novos meios de comunicação, redes sociais e impulsionada pela tecnologia, novos desafios são enfrentados a cada dia. Sendo o turismo um elemento fortemente presente na vida de muitas pessoas e de destinos por esse mundo, o mesmo lida diretamente com as adversidades impostas pelas tendências desse novo mundo.
Em meio aos desafios mencionados, conceitos como a economia partilhada surgiram na busca de soluções para problemas apresentados pelos atuais modelos de negócios. Com a intenção de criar maior democratização, acesso e sustentabilidade dentro de tais modelos, a economia partilhada difundiu-se por diversos setores, como os transportes e acomodação, afetando de forma contundente o mercado do turismo. Conceitos de partilha de bens e serviços foram criados, como Uber e Airbnb, assim como conceitos como work exchange, dando possibilidade aos viajantes para explorarem o mundo, ao trocarem mão de obra por hospedagem e alimentação.
Sendo os millennials considerados como membros da geração que ajudou a impulsionar muitos desses novos conceitos e modelos, os mesmos têm um papel central no desenvolvimento e avanço das novas tendências, como é o caso do surgimento de programas de work exchange. Para tanto, foi investigado, no presente estudo, o turista trabalhador em hostels na cidade de Lisboa, utilizando-se o método de pesquisa quali-quanti e um questionário como instrumento de recolha de dados, com a intenção de conhecer quem é esse turista e qual o seu perfil. O estudo alcançou os objetivos desejados, por meio da verificação das hipóteses previamente levantadas, e foi capaz de delinear a caracterização de quem é o turista trabalhador em visita a Lisboa.
The world is going through a moment of great uncertainty and instability. Political, environmental and socio-economic issues have changed the way people live and the way new business models and infrastructures are established. A population that is connected due to the new communication media, social media and boosted by technology, faces new challenges each day. With tourism being an element that is strongly present in many people’s lives and within the destinations throughout the world, it also deals directly with the adversities imposed by the approaches of this new world. In the midst of the challenges mentioned, concepts, such as shared economy, have appeared, hoping to solve problems that have been presented by the current business models. With the intention of creating a more democratic, accessible and sustainable format inside these models, the shared economy has been disseminated into different sectors, such as transportation and accommodation, affecting the tourism markets in a compelling way. Concepts for the sharing of goods and services were created, such as Uber and Airbnb, as well as, concepts like work exchange, giving travelers the possibility of exploring the world by exchanging work for meals and accommodation. As the millennials are being considered the generation that helped urge many of these new concepts and models, it is noteworthy that they also have an important role in developing and in the taking forward of these new tendencies, like the arising of work exchange programs. Therefore, in the study, the working tourist was in hostels in the city of Lisbon was investigated, utilizing the quali-quanti research approach and questionnaire as the instrument of data collection, with the goal of knowing who this tourist is, so that a profile of this type of traveler could be established. The study was able to meet its objectives, by verifying the hypothesis that were previously established, outlining the characteristics of the working tourist that visits Lisbon.
