Abstract(s)
A infiltração apresenta segurança e custo efetividade favorável, ou seja, apresenta baixo custo e excelentes resultados tanto a curto, quanto a médio prazo.
Viscosupplementation is a non-invasive treatment indicated in cases of internal changes in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It is a simple procedure that can be done in an outpatient regimen, in which an intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid derivatives is used, (a high molecular weight polysaccharide) in order to restore the mechanical function, improve the lubrication of the TMJ and contribute to the stimulation of the production of the synovial fluid. , The hyaluronic acid has anti-inflammatory properties and physico-chemical action, acting on numerous aspects of the joint. Thus, in addition to improve pain, suppressing it, it also improves articular cartilage, altering the course of the disease. Infiltration presents security and favorable cost effectiveness, which means that it presents low cost and excellent results, both in the short and medium term. There is also a greater quality and quantity of synovial fluid, restoring and improving the patient's quality of life. Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) incorporates clinical changes in the muscles of mastication, temporomandibular joints and associated structures. The objective of this work was to review and analyze the literature regarding the effectiveness, safety and predictability of the viscosupplementation technique with hyaluronic acid infiltration as a treatment in for temporomandibular joint changes, as an effective treatment alternative for temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), seeking to present the benefits of its use in clinical practice.
