Abstract(s)
The main purpose of this thesis, is to present a methodology to design, plan and implement an assembly line. This arises following the launch of an assembly line to a new product of a multinational manufacturer of components for the automotive industry, which was used as a case study for the methodology. Its development is justified by the increase of the competitiveness in the automotive industry, motivated by the need to launch new products and ensure the flexibility in production, while following the technological innovation and contending with the quality of the competition. The development of a holistic methodology has proven to be difficult, and the communication and planning tools together with a strong structural organization, have been defined as key requirements to support the principle of concurrent engineering. The concurrent engineering is an essential concept in the design, plan and implementation of an assembly line, definitely contributing to ensure the established goals and objectives are met. Considering these principles and concepts, in the presented methodology was shown that it is possible to design and adapt the productive systems to meet the current demands.
