Abstract(s)
In a current scenario marked by agile changes and environmental awareness, the distribution logistics sector holds the potential to address these emerging needs. In this context, the main objective is to present to the company under study the benefits of implementing combinations of container loading and unloading, aiming to maximize container utilization. This needs to maximize container usage results in the reduction of financial costs and CO2 emissions. In light of the objectives and methods employed, this study is framed within the qualitative research paradigm. For data collection, documentary research was conducted, exploring the available information from all operations carried out in the case under study between 2022 and 2023 at the ports of Leixões and Lisbon. This data served as the starting point for assessing the potential of the practice, encompassing not only the volume but also the values and costs involved. The results reveal a gradual growth, enabling more effective planning for the combination of container unloading and loading, in addition to financial gains and sustainability. It is concluded that the practice of container reuse is not only advantageous from an economic perspective but also adopts an ecologically sustainable approach.
