autónoma, promover competências técnico-científicas, reforçar a confiança
profissional e contribuir para a retenção destes profissionais. Apesar do
OpenGrey e Google Scholar. Foram incluídos 7 estudos publicados entre 1998
e 2022, com metodologias e localizações geográficas diversas.
A análise das evidências encontradas permitiu identificar 6 categorias
temáticas: retenção profissional; promoção do bem-estar; suporte na relação
supervisiva; programas supervisivos estruturados; suporte individualizado; e
perspetiva dos supervisores clínicos. Os resultados evidenciam que a
supervisão clínica estruturada favorece a integração, promove o
desempenho profissional.
Clinical supervision plays a fundamental role in the integration and development of Specialist Nurses in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing, particularly within demanding clinical contexts such as obstetric inpatient services. When structured and continuous, these supervisory programmes aim to facilitate the transition towards autonomous practice, promote technical and scientific competences, strengthen professional confidence, and contribute to the retention of these professionals. Despite the widespread recognition of its importance, there remains a scarcity of systematised scientific evidence regarding the implementation and impact of such programmes on the integration process of Specialist Nurses in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing. The present study aimed to map the available scientific evidence concerning supervisory programmes applied to the integration of these professionals. To this end, a Scoping Review was conducted, following the methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute® and the PRISMA-ScR® guidelines. The search was carried out in the CINAHL, MEDLINE, MedicLatina, and SCOPUS databases, complemented by grey literature sources through the Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal, OpenGrey, and Google Scholar. Seven studies published between 1998 and 2022 were included, encompassing diverse methodologies and geographical contexts. The analysis of the evidence enabled the identification of six thematic categories: professional retention; promotion of well-being; support within the supervisory relationship; structured supervisory programmes; individualised support; and clinical supervisors’ perspectives. The findings demonstrate that structured clinical supervision fosters integration, promotes the development of clinical and emotional competences, enhances professional confidence and job satisfaction, and contributes to safer, more collaborative, and motivating clinical environments. It is concluded that supervisory models should be integrated into healthcare organisations, as clinical supervision, when adapted to the individual needs of professionals, constitutes an essential resource for the integration of Specialist Nurses in Maternal Health and Obstetric Nursing, with a positive impact on their adaptation, retention, and professional performance.
