Abstract(s)
do alojamento.
This research aims to evaluate guests' motivations to participate in environmental activities proposed by hotel establishments. These measures are part of an Environmental Education Strategy in hotels, whose creation is innovative and aims to raise guests' awareness, aiming at changing behaviors and applying them in their post-stay every day. The methodology of the dissertation is based on surveys to potential guests, semi structured interviews to hotel managers and the implementation of a Delphi method, applied to the same group of interviewees. These steps culminated in the elaboration of an Environmental Education Strategy, whose main goal will be, in the future, to integrate the suggested policies in the hotel establishments. The results indicate that potential guests are interested in environmentally themed activities and that hotels already have some environmental awareness and concerns. However, it is notable that there is a lack of measures that involve the guests, so that they feel they are part of the solution. Six measures have been unanimously approved as being the easiest to implement: encouraging local businesses and partnerships with local producers, organizing beach or green space clean-ups, promoting ecological walks with possible guided tours of the surroundings, providing portable ashtrays for smoking guests, sponsoring associations, and investing in the communication between guests and staff. The measures to be implemented should be adapted according to the type and surroundings of the accommodation.
