Abstract(s)
The present report is part of the 1st Master’s Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing at Santa Maria Higher Health School. Its preparation, subsequent presentation, and public discussion, aim to obtain the Master´s Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, with Specialization in Perioperative Nursing. Through a critical-reflexive analysis, I intend to highlight the entire process of knowledge enhancement, acquisition, and development of common skills of the nurse specialist as outlined in Regulation No. 140/2019, specific skills of the nurse specialist in medical-surgical nursing, in the area of perioperative nursing as outlined in Regulation No. 429/2018, culminating in the description of the skills acquired related to the Master's Degree as per Decree-Law No. 74/2006. This report presents an analysis focused on different clinical contexts: Clinical Teaching I - Caring in the operating room (accreditation for this course was requested and approved, considering the skills acquired during my professional practice in an Operating Room); Clinical Teaching II / Module I – Outpatient Unit; Clinical Teaching II / Module II – Optional Internship. The experiences gained during these internships allowed me to develop skills in caring for the individual and family / significant person in perioperative situations, with a special focus on the preoperative nursing consultation area, where the empowerment of the individual and family / significant person was emphasized. The vulnerability inherent in the complex and unknown environment of the operating room, as well as the anesthesia-surgical procedure itself, underlines the relevance of the intervention of the nurse specialist in perioperative nursing in empowering the individual and family / significant person in the preoperative consultation. The nurse acts as a facilitator in the health-disease transition process and in achieving positive outcomes for the patient and their family / significant person.
