O presente relatório pretende caracterizar as explorações de bovinos de carne do concelho de Alcanena através dos resultados de 25 inquéritos realizados às explorações. A maioria dos inquiridos são do sexo masculino, apresentam entre 51 e 65 anos e têm como atividade principal a produção de bovinos de carne em sistema extensivo.As explorações inquiridas apresentam dimensão média, variando entre os 21 a 30 hectares, sendo divididas, geralmente, em 10 a 20 parcelas. As explorações dedicam-se especialmente à venda de vitelos desmamados. Os efetivos são constituídos, maioritariamente, por animais cruzados da raça Limousine com a raça Alentejana, sendo que as explorações possuem cerca de 11 a 20 vacas aleitantes e um touro reprodutor. O maneio reprodutivo é realizado sem épocas de cobrição e de parto definidas, onde o intervalo entre partos ronda dos 12 meses, já os vitelos, normalmente, são desmamados aos 7 meses de idade.A freguesia da Serra de Santo António, comparativamente ao restante concelho de Alcanena, destaca-se por possuir mais parcelas de terreno por hectares de área, com efetivos são de maiores dimensões, produzidos na sua totalidade em sistema extensivo (sendo que no restante concelho existem explorações de sistema semi-intensivo) que, no entanto, apresentam mais problemas com parasitas externos.
This report aims to characterize beef cattle farms in the municipality of Alcanena based on the results of 25 surveys conducted on farms. Most respondents are male, aged between 51 and 65, and their main activity is beef cattle production in an extensive system.The farms surveyed are medium-sized, ranging from 21 to 30 hectares, and are generally divided into 10 to 20 plots. The farms are mainly dedicated to the sale of weaned calves. The herds consist mainly of animals crossed between the Limousine and Alentejana breeds, with farms having around 11 to 20 suckler cows and one breeding bull. Reproductive management is carried out without defined mating and calving seasons, with the interval between calvings being around 12 months, while calves are normally weaned at 7 months of age.The parish of Serra de Santo António, compared to the rest of the municipality of Alcanena, stands out for having more plots of land per hectare, with larger herds, produced entirely in an extensive system (whereas in the rest of the municipality there are semi-intensive farms) which, however, have more problems with external parasites.
