Abstract(s)
Equality between men and women was always a subject addressed in schools of thought over the centuries. The biological part (obviously different between the masculine and feminine genders) marked this difference for a long time. Men were considered to have some capacities, which were not recognized among women capacities. Thus, in the area of labor, it was difficult to imagine women exercising professions commonly related to men (for example forces and Security Services). However, this panorama was gradually, changed towards a greater equality between genders. The social contingencies that have been realized, led women to take jobs and responsibilities, which until then, were exclusively assigned to men. Among these jobs and responsibilities, it is possible to stress their access to politician and command functions; in the case of Forces and Security Services (where the Public Security Police – PSP – is included), women perform functions of command. Presently, there is a significant number of women police officers. With this research, we try to understand if there is any kind of constraint felt by these women police officers that may affect their professional performance. To this end, five women police officers were interviewed. These women perform their functions in several police units and Commands. We decided to use a qualitative approach as far as the development of the empirical study is concerned. The semi-structured and semi-oriented interviews were based on a previously established interview guide. Such interviews were the corpus, on which the analysis of content was based. The results showed, in a general way, that there were no constraints or difficulties limiting or affecting their functions and highlighted, among others aspects, the excellent training provided to these women, which has effectively contributed to an adaptation and a stability, which in turn allow these police officers to efficiently perform their functions
