Abstract(s)
Entrepreneurship has been a relevant field of social development in the country and by practicing it, it is relevant to examine this phenomenon and draw new conclusions regarding this field of research. In this sense, the objective of this work was to identify the factors that explain the failure of a business in Portugal. And as specific objectives: identify the most important reasons for the failure of start-ups in general; determine which indicators to be analyzed allow distinguishing between success and failure cases, identify whether the failure factors identified are predominantly exogenous (dynamic, linked to the environment and the market) or endogenous (due to inexperience and mistaken decisions by the promoters); to analyze qualitatively, through semi-structured interviews, the main challenges faced by entrepreneurs in Portugal and determine how incentives are provided to entrepreneurs. For our study, a qualitative methodology was used, through the application of interviews with 10 participants who had already had entrepreneurship projects in Portugal. It was determined that the main factors that an entrepreneur must have to start an entrepreneurial project are to be truthful, to be resilient to failure, to always focus on what he wants, and to be perceptive enough to identify in advance the factors that may be considered less effective. This is because, when external factors are considered as social costs, they can be dramatic at the professional and individual level, with the perception of guilt being the biggest factor.
