Abstract(s)
The progressive demographic aging resulting from an increasing longevity translates an important achievement of humanity since this factor is associated to the existence of living conditions favorable to the increase in average life expectancy. As a consequence of ageing and, considering that the population in general has to continue to work until later, families cannot devote themselves to caring for older family members, often resorting to social support intuitions, such as the nursing homes. In the absence of the family or someone close to care for the elderly, the social support activities like nursery homes provide support to the elderly in the community. This support consists in the promotion of the physical and mental health of users along with the existence of emotional connections indispensable to the well-being of the elderly such as physical activities. In this way, the support institutions arise and there are individuals, entitled as workers who, as well as in other workplaces, are subject to hazards and risks that must be monitored, eliminated or minimized. The main objective of this work was to optimize the safety procedures already established in a nursing home in order to promote hygiene, health and safety in the workplace, ensuring the physical and mental integrity of workers, as well as the prevention of occupational risks, and in order to prevent and reduce work accidents and occupational diseases. The current situation of the nursery home associated to the Health and Safety at Work was analyzed and there were proposed improvements that went through the elaboration of a new risk assessment, the analysis of the workers risks’ perception and through the elaboration of Good Practice’s Manual adjusted to the workers needs.
