A escolha do
This dissertation, entitled ‘The role of children's books: Inducers of disciplinary articulation in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education’, is part of the Master's Degree in Teaching the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Maths and Natural Sciences in the 2nd Cycle, at the School of Education, part of the Setúbal Polytechnic Institute. The research project under study centres on the question: ‘How does children's literature contribute to interdisciplinarity in the classroom?’. The topic was chosen because of the growing need to promote interdisciplinarity in primary school teaching, exploring children's literature as a facilitating element in this process. The main objective is to promote experiences of disciplinary articulation for students so that they can achieve the different objectives expected for the 3rd and 4th year in different areas, Portuguese, Environmental Studies, Maths, Visual Arts, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Citizenship, using children's books as a resource. The aim of the research was not only to promote a method that facilitates disciplinary articulation but also to analyse the students' motivation, enthusiasm and involvement in the method adopted and to promote a method that facilitates disciplinary articulation. To this end, a qualitative methodology was used, based on action research, which included participant observation techniques, field notes, document collection and a questionnaire survey. An analysis and observation grid was created to collect and analyse the data. The results obtained were extremely positive, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinarity and the fundamental role of children's books in this context. This research shows that children's literature not only enhances the teaching-learning process, but also fosters a more stimulating and engaging educational environment for students.
