Abstract(s)
evidente, justificando a pertinĂȘncia desta temĂĄtica.
duodenopancreatectomia.
No entanto, a escassez
BACKGROUND: Duodenopancreatectomy represents the only curative treatment option for pancreatic neoplasia. However, this surgical procedure can potentially alter the patient's independence due to the disease itself and the impact caused by the surgery. Therefore, it is essential to characterize these patients and their self-care needs in order to reflect on the role of the Rehabilitation Nursing Specialist in this domain. Furthermore, the scarcity of studies that elucidate the characteristics of this population justifies the relevance of this research topic. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study are to characterize patients undergoing duodenopancreatectomy in terms of gender, age, medical history, body mass index, previous self-care condition, and the number of days of hospitalization and intensive care. Additionally, the study aims to evaluate the level of self-care dependency in these patients regarding personal hygiene, transferring, and turning on the first and third day after returning to the ward. The ultimate goal is to characterize self-care in patients undergoing duodenopancreatectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quantitative methodology was employed, using a descriptive-analytical, cross-sectional approach with a retrospective analysis. Data collection was conducted through the review of clinical records, utilizing the HernĂąni Duque self-care dependency assessment form. The sample consists of 48 patients who underwent duodenopancreatectomy in a hospital in the northern region of Portugal between January 2020 and June 2022. RESULTS: Patients undergoing duodenopancreatectomy experience a deterioration in the aforementioned domains of self-care. A high number of missing data was identified, which compromised the sample size. Nevertheless, this allowed for reflection on the importance of nursing documentation, as well as information systems and clinical decision support tools. CONCLUSION: The Rehabilitation Nursing Specialist possesses the necessary skills to intervene and address the self-care needs of individuals undergoing duodenopancreatectomy. However, the scarcity of results in this study does not allow for a definitive conclusion regarding the self-care profile of this population. This raises questions that can be explored further through the available data. The data deficiency identified is related to a lack of documentation in information systems, prompting further consideration of this topic.
