Abstract(s)
This internship report is part of the 12th Master´s Course in the Area of Specialization in Community Nursing. It aims to describe the path taken in the planning, implementation and evaluation of a community nursing intervention according to the methodology of health planning. This methodology, considering the specific skills of the Specialist Nurse in Community Nursing, is the method of choice according to Ordem dos Enfermeiros (2018). This internship took place at a Community Care Unit in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. It is essential to intervene in adolescents and in the prevention of tobacco consumption in the school community. Smoking is one of the most considerable preventable causes of chronic diseases, reduced quality of life and premature death (DGS, 2019). This community nursing intervention focuses on the prevention of smoking among adolescents in the 9th grade of a school in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. To elaborate the diagnosis of the situation was used the questionnaire SmokeOut. This was applied to 32 students of the 9th grade in the school year 2021-2022. This was followed by the prioritization of problems which made clear that the lack of knowledge related to tobacco consumption and the existent intention to try smoking cigarettes were the problems deserving intervention. As a theoretical reference was adopted the Neuman´s System Model which led to the planning of strategies with a view to primary prevention and the training of adolescents in the response to the highlighted problems. These strategies included health education sessions, posting posters and distributing an eBook to teenagers. After the implementation of this community nursing intervention an evaluation of the effectiveness of the implemented measures was carried out.
