Abstract(s)
diversas categorias, subcategorias e sub-subcategorias.
seus pais, nas categorias: a parceria de cuidados em risco; a procura da humanidade;
A meta serå
The WHO declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic on March 11th of 2020 resulted in drastic changes among everyone's lives. The implications regarding this public health emergency affected not only patients, but also families and health care professionals, with particular relevance on neonatal care, where a model of shared partnership for care in a personalized approach for particularly vulnerable children prevails. In order to better understand the nurses' experience and perspective when caring for newborns hospitalized in neonatal units during the COVID-19 pandemic, a study was developed regarding the subject "Nurses' Experiences in Caring for Newborns Hospitalized in Neonatal Units During the COVID-19 Pandemicâ. The present study aims to describe the experiences of nurses during the exercise of their activity during this pandemic and to understand the meaning attributed by them to their experiences in this context. It is a qualitative study, with a descriptive and exploratory approach and of a phenomenological nature. Interviews with 15 nurses who worked in different neonatal units across the country between March 2020 and June 2022 were conducted. Data analysis was performed using Bardin's content analysis technique, from which two main themes emerged: the âI Personâ and the âI Nurseâ, each presenting several categories, subcategories and sub-subcategories. When considering their experiences as a person, nurses reveal feelings such as fear, feeling of isolation, fatigue, guilt and difficulty in separating their personal life from their professional life. When experiencing as a nurse, they unveil a diverse sphere of feelings, such as insecurity, uprising, anger, confusion, anxiety, concern, fear, stress, discouragement, demotivation, discrimination, devaluation, anguish and ambivalence. Their concerns regarding the subject of their care, newborns and their parents, also emerge and including the following categories: shared partnership of care at risk; the search for humanity; learn to be a nurse in times of COVID; to live the experience as a team and envisioning a return to normality. They also claim the difficulty in maintaining the same attention when caring for others, when they themselves felt the need to be cared for and to take care of their own. The understanding of the experience lived by these nurses and the meaning they ascribed to everything they lived through, can enable the development of strategies that will allow a more informed decision-making when facing new critical situations. And with the goal of always to maintain the best and most humanized care as well as attending to the wellbeing of nurses working in neonatology on a daily basis.
