Abstract(s)
With cultural diversity increasingly present, caring for clients from any part of the world is a reality that presents numerous challenges for nursing. In this context, there is a need for the care provided to be culturally competent, always aiming to contribute to the well-being and maximization of health, respecting the identity of each individual, family, group, community and/or institution. The general objective of this internship report is to present the activities that after being reflected and analyzed, led to the acquisition and/or development of skills in the specialization area of Child and Pediatric Health Nursing in Portugal and in Luanda with special emphasis on cultural influences of being and becoming a mother in an Angolan context. This report consists of two chapters: in the first chapter we intend to critically reflect on the development of competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing in the different internship fields, carried out in Portugal and Angola, supported by scientific evidence in decision-making and in culturally competent care to the child, young and family. Subsequently, in the second chapter, a qualitative study was developed to understand the cultural influences on being and becoming a mother in an Angolan context, which resulted in an intervention proposal in this domain, allowing the characterization of the importance of the child in the family, identification of existing forms of parenting and understanding how culture interferes in the relationship between mother and child. The skills developed mainly occurred in the domain of providing specific care to respond to the needs through the life cycle and development of the child, young, and family. The path taken allowed us to understand how cultural influences interfere with the process of being a mother.
