Abstract(s)
Enfermagem Veterinária, retratando, a casuística observada durante o estágio curricular
decorrido na Clínica Vet R’in Área.
do internamento e tratamento.
The following report serves as a conclusion to the degree in Veterinary Nursing, presenting and reflecting on various relevant clinical cases observed during a curricular internship at the veterinary clinic Clínica Vet R'in Área. The report is divided into two components: the first part consists of a monograph titled “Ovariectomy in Minimally Invasive Surgery vs. Traditional Surgery in the Dog”, while the second part is comprised of a statistical analysis of the clinical cases, their introduction, and a study developed on the respective cases. Ovariectomy is a surgical procedure which is mostly elective in small animal clinic. It allows the prevention of a number of diseases, as well as prevents unintended reproduction of the animals and helps in correcting certain behaviors. Over the years, minimal invasion surgery has been seeing a surge in veterinary medicine, since it offers several advantages when compared to traditional surgery - in particular, the reduction of perioperative pain and recovery time. The student had the opportunity to be involved in several clinical fields, namely in surgeries and hospitalization, assisting in 123 traditional surgeries and 32 minimally invasive surgeries. Moreover, the student performed 1261 nursing tasks in the setting of hospitalization and treatment. In the surgical context, the student produced a guide of pre and post-surgical proceedings to be hand out to the tutors, in order to enable an adequate preparation and recovery of the patient, while avoiding mistakes on the tutor’s behalf. The student conducted a comparative study between bitches that underwent ovariectomy by minimal invasion surgery in relation to traditional surgery. In this way, different parameters were evaluated, which allowed to conclude that the duration of the surgeries was longer in the one with minimal invasion, but the pain threshold was lower in this approach, as well as the appearance of complications in the sutures. And, the bitches that underwent traditional surgery were the ones that, for the most part, did not show appetite on the day of the intervention, and it was also verified, in both surgical modalities, that animals of lower weight (0-10kg) presented an earlier awakening. Summing up, the minimal invasion approach has several advantages when compared to the traditional one, investing in a future with more adequate animal welfare ideals
