Abstract(s)
This Master's Report, entitled “Specialized Nursing Care for the Person in a Palliative Situation: Promoting Sexual Health and Intimacy,” was developed as part of the Master’s Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, focusing on Nursing for the Person in a Palliative Situation, at Escola Superior de Enfermagem São José de Cluny. The report aims to critically, reflectively, and substantively describe the development of the competencies acquired throughout the internships, with a focus on promoting sexual health and intimacy in Palliative Care, supported by participation in conferences and research in databases. The clinical training took place in three settings: community, inpatient, and hospital-based care, in both Madeira Island and Portugal mainland, providing a comprehensive and diversified education that mobilized theoretical and practical knowledge. The report is organized into five chapters, contextualizing the theme, and describing the process of developing common competencies (Regulation n.º 140/2019), specific competencies (Regulation n.º 429/2018), and master’s-level competencies in nursing, based on current scientific evidence and best practices. The preparation of a case study, participation in various training programs and literature review, were some of the strategies used to help understand the importance of addressing sexual health and intimacy in care, as well as to identify the key interventions that promote the relief of suffering and maximize the quality of life for the patient and their family/caregiver.
