Abstract(s)
My academics and professional experience in tourism have motivated me to explore the thematic from a tourism/health point of view, based on the Gerontology goals of “what has been achieved" and "what can be achieved", "who develops" and "who can develop"," who motivates" and "who can motivate ","who travels", "who interacts" and the "real impacts throughout the life time ", i.e. to value the social knowledge of the subject matter under discussion. With the foundation of the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, we have seen an increase of awareness and responsiveness regarding the ageing problematic and its challenges by public authorities, social partners and civil society organizations, trying to reconcile health concerns, welfare and quality of life with the world's largest industry, tourism. In this regard, the interest in this topic derives from the need to demystify ageing stereotypes and allow society new ways of thinking and treating the elderly, believing that once leisure needs, difficulty and simplicity have been identified, one should be able to prepare and propose further and better programs that meet the needs and requirements of this age group, for example "Tourism and Aging", "Senior Tourism and Gerontology", "Tourist Attractions for Seniors", "Health Tourism: Thermalism", "Social Tourism for Seniors: citizenship and rights (adequate health care, easy access to equipment, leisure policy with specific age interests and requirements)", "Tourism as means of inclusion: Recreation and Interaction", "Ageing and Public Policies" and "How tourism can bring benefits to the elderly: during the ageing process and the changes concerning the same process, in social (for example: retirement) and in health terms."
