Abstract(s)
O turismo é um fenómeno que contempla várias componentes, tais como culturais,
políticas, sociais e económicas. É neste contexto que surgem os eventos, uma
ramificação que veio inovar e tornar o setor do turismo ainda mais atrativo e
competitivo, não só pelo poder que os eventos têm em mobilizar pessoas a deslocar-se,
mas também pela sua capacidade de tornar os destinos mais atrativos e, muitas vezes,
até modificar a sua imagem.
A presente dissertação tem por objetivo analisar a relação entre o turismo de eventos
e o desenvolvimento local, aplicada a o estudo de caso do Festival de Balonismo de
Coruche. Pretende-se assim, apurar se um evento desta natureza, tão singular e com
características tão distintivas, consegue impulsionar o desenvolvimento local, dando
sustentabilidade ao fluxo turístico de Coruche e se é considerado um fator decisivo no
momento da repetição do destino.
Para responder a estas questões foi realizada uma investigação empírica, utilizando
uma metodologia mista de recolha de dados através de inquéritos por questionário à
comunidade local, entrevistas semiestruturadas à organização e stakeholders locais e
observação participante da edição de 2021.
Foi possível caracterizar o evento, avaliar o grau de satisfação da população em
relação a este, perceber de que forma os principais intervenientes do Festival
percecionam o evento e aferir a sua importância para o turismo de Coruche. Apesar de
ser um evento anual, consegue atrair muitos visitantes a Coruche durante todo o ano,
pelo facto de a atividade do balonismo se poder praticar todo o ano nesta localidade.
Tourism is a phenomenon that includes several components, such as cultural, political, social and economic ones. It is in this context that events have emerged; a branch that has come to innovate and make the tourism sector even more attractive and competitive, not only for the strength that events have in mobilizing people to move, but for their ability to make destinations more attractive and even to change their image. This dissertation aims to analyze the relationship between events tourism and local development, with the case study of the Coruche Ballooning Festival. The goal was to find out if an event of this kind, so unique and with such distinctive characteristics, can boost local development, giving sustainability to the tourist flow of Coruche and if it is considered a decisive factor at the time of repetition of the destination. To answer this question, an empirical investigation was carried out, using a mixed methodology of data collection through questionnaire surveys to the local community, semi-structured interviews with the organization and local stakeholders, and participant observation of the Festival’s 2021 edition. Thus, it was possible to characterize the event, assess the degree of satisfaction of the population towards it, and understand how the main stakeholders of the Festival perceive the event, as well as how it contributes to the local development of Coruche and assess its importance for tourism in Coruche. Despite being an annual event, it attracts many visitors to Coruche throughout the year, due to the fact that the ballooning activity can be practiced all year round in this location.
