Abstract(s)
As duas explorações têm parcelas
The organic farm production (MPB) is a management system that combines the best production practices to preserve natural resources, in the long term, animal welfare and the biodiversity preservation, due to the concern of future generations regarding the obtaining natural products and processes. The present report took place in the year 2022, with the main objective of carrying out a study in two certified beef cattle farms, according to the MPB rules. The two farms have contiguous parcels, one under MPB and the other under conversion to MPB. Composite analyses of each of the plots were carried out and it was found that the contiguous permanent grassland plots showed less differences in relation to what was observed in the contiguous temporary grassland plots. It was also possible to verify that both farms, contrary to most soils in mainland Portugal, did not present acidic pH levels. At the level of permanent pasture and temporary meadows, it was also found that the Ca/Mg ratio in both farms was high and very high, which is not desirable, as it means that there is a lack of Mg at the level of pasture and forage, damaging them in qualitative and quantitative terms, and may also be harmful to the animals. Regarding compliance with the certification requirements, it was verified, through the field visit/control, that both farms complied with the rules of MPB and, what the differences are between a farm in MPB and a farm in conversion. Finally, a survey was carried out to thirty producers (fifteen in MPB and fifteen in conversion) about MPB in order to understand what led them to implement this production method. All respondents answered the financial benefit as the main reason for joining this production method.
