Abstract(s)
A metodologia envolveu entrevistas e análise documental.
The need to communicate is inherent to human beings. There are, however, people who cannot communicate through speech, or do so with significant limitations, thus needing to communicate differently. The aim of this research is to achieve greater knowledge about the various forms of augmentative and alternative communication available, as well as a greater understanding of how they can be adapted to the specific characteristics and needs of non-verbal children or those with limitations in this area. This will include research on support products, such as specific software and devices that can be effective tools for communication. In this context, we will seek to analyze the functioning of the CRTIC and, in particular, the impact of the work of CRTIC and to understand the dimension of CRTIC Coimbra's intervention in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication and the contribution of the prescribed support products as facilitators of children's communication. It is intended that the work in this area contributes to promoting school and social inclusion for children with communication difficulties, based on the identification of approaches and practices that facilitate their active participation, allowing them to develop learning, express needs, opinions and feelings effectively. The methodology involved interviews and document analysis. The results confirmed the facilitating effect of assistive products on communication, emphasizing, however, the need to promote, even more, the training of educational teams and develop the monitoring of the use of assistive products.
