Abstract(s)
Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for
Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR®), do Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI®).
The increase of aging population has an impact on the individuals’ lives, reflected in the reduced ability to carry out activities of daily living. In addition, it leads to the appearance of chronic diseases, such as dementia, making the person dependent on a caregiver. The role of caregiver is mostly taken on by family members who, without proper training or qualification to exercise this function, end up experiencing situations of burden. In this way, the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation, with their specific skills and holistic family view, can be an agent that facilitates the healthy transition of the family caregiver, enabling them to perform their new role. This master's thesis is based on the scoping review methodology, with the objective of mapping and analyzing the scientific evidence on the intervention of the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation in the family caregiver burden of the elderly with dementia. For its development, the guidelines recommended by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR®) of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI®) were followed. The search was conducted in SCOPUS®, Web of Science™ and EBSCO®, and in the gray literature: Repositórios Científicos de Acesso Aberto de Portugal, Google Scholar and MedNar. As for the results obtained, 13 studies were included, which advocate the implementation of psychoeducational, psychosocial, home care interventions and with technological resources. In fact, they demonstrate that these programs have a positive impact on reducing the family caregiver's burden, their levels of stress and depression. The present dissertation showed that, to date, there is no evidence about the intervention of the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation in the family caregiver burden of the elderly with dementia. Thus, it is essential to carry out research to understand to what extent the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation, inserted in an interdisciplinary team, can contribute to improving the assistance provided to the family caregiver.
