A área das competências e a área de turismo, remetem para conceitos para áreas de constante mudança e adaptabilidade, promovendo a necessidade contínua de estudos sobre as mesmas. O presente estudo empírico de carácter exploratório, contudo igualmente explanatório e transversal, visa compreender a perceção de estudantes e profissionais sobre a importância das competências na área de turismo. Foi necessário contextualizar estes dois constructos e compreender a sua história e definição. Após a compreensão de cada um, o processo passa por interligar os dois – através de perfis de competência da área. Para complementar este mesmo, ainda realizar uma revisão de literatura relativo às diferentes perceções de estudantes e profissionais nesta e em outras áreas. Após este enquadramento, para alcançar resultados, a metodologia utilizada foi do tipo quantitativo. Os participantes que constituem a amostra deste estudo, são os alunos de licenciatura de Turismo e Gestão Hoteleira da Universidade Europeia e profissionais da área de turismo em Portugal, pertencentes a várias entidades. Sendo que o estudo contou com um total de 228 participantes. Através desta foi possível concluir que existem diferenças significativas nas perceções, contudo de forma geral, todas as competências estudadas foram consideradas importantes.
The area of competences and the area of tourism refer to concepts of constant change and adaptability, promoting the continuos studies regarding it. This exploratory empirical study, however also explanatory and transversal, aims to understand the perception of students and professionals about the importance of competences for the area of tourism. It was necessary to contextualize these two constructs and understand their history and definition. After understanding each one, the process involves interconnecting the two – through competency profiles of the area. To complement this, still conduct a literature review related to the different perceptions of students and professionals in this and other areas. After this framework, to achieve results, the methodology used was quantitative. The participants who constitute the sample of this study are the students of Tourism and Hotel Management of Universidade Europeia and professionals in the area of tourism and hospitality in Portugal, belonging to various entities. The study had a total of 228 participants. Through this it was possible to conclude that there are significant differences in perceptions, however in general, all the competencies studied were considered important.
