O paciente idoso tem muitas vezes indicação para a reabilitação oral com prótese removível, mas pode não reunir as condições ideais na cavidade oral para a colocação da mesma.
A cirurgia pré-protética é um procedimento utilizado para criar as condições necessárias na cavidade oral e criar uma base mais apropriada para uma melhor retenção e suporte da prótese dentária.
Este trabalho é uma revisão bibliográfica e aborda a cirurgia pré-protética e a importância da odontogeriatria.
The elderly patient is often indicated for oral rehabilitation with a removable prosthesis but may not have the ideal conditions in the oral cavity for its placement. Pre-prosthetic surgery is a procedure used to create the necessary conditions in the oral cavity and create a more appropriate base for better retention and support of the dental prosthesis. This work is a literature review and addresses pre-prosthetic surgery and the importance of geriatric dentistry.
