Abstract(s)
do professor catedrático.

Therefore, we have raised the following research question: what is the greatest aspiration of lecturer career in Angola? The research methodology used is based on the qualitative approach. The information was collected through semi-structured interview. The guide of the survey was made up of eight open-ended questions, which were elaborated based on document analysis and literature review carried out previously. The guide was used to interview the lecturers from higher education in Angola. For our convenience, the sample is made up of nine lecturers, and the selection was based on the years of service, working with lecturers with five or more years of experience. The information gathered was treated following the steps recommended for content analysis. The result of our research shows that there are five categories of higher education lecturers in Angola, such as full professor, associate professor, assistant professor, assistant, and trainee assistant; and that the greatest aspiration of lecturer career is to be promoted from one category to another and reach the category of full professor. However, the result of our research also shows that the challenges related to lecturer career in Angola are enormous, namely: (i) the lack of material, technological and financial resources deemed necessary for scientific production; (ii) the need for greater appreciation of knowledge, aiming to meet the student’s expectations, bearing in mind the instrumental side of education; (iii) training of high-quality staff capable of promoting the development of the country; (iv) the need for self-motivation in the face of the devaluation of the profession resulting from poor working conditions. Among the reasons that led the lecturers to choose their career, on the one hand, we have the passion for the career, and the influence from former lecturers; on the other hand, the need to secure the first job offer and the fear of being unemployed due to lack of better opportunities.
