Abstract(s)
vezes origem no conteúdo do trabalho.
Mental health is a current subject and a concern for the States, given the high numbers of mental illnesses and self-inflicted injuries that result in death. The police are one of the first and main actors involved in these incidents, dealing directly with the impact of these violent deaths. This contact is a source of stress and psychological, physical and behavioural consequences. The aim of this study was to understand how police officers from the Moto Police Station of the Lisbon Traffic Division (EM-DT) are affected by suicides and suicide attempts on the 25 de Abril Bridge. A qualitative study was carried out by analysing the content of semi-structured interviews with 18 police officers from the EM-DT, with the aim of understanding not only the consequences they experience but also the strategies they use to better deal with them. The results show that the impacts felt, particularly the high frequency with which symptoms of compassion fatigue, secondary trauma and depression were reported, often come from the content of the job.
