Abstract(s)
Introdução: As condições músculo-esqueléticas (ME) constituem a segunda maior causa
Embora a
A primeira fase integrou a construção
A recolha
Introduction: Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are the second leading cause of years lived with disability, manifested by the presence of pain, and in Portugal there has been a gradual increase in its prevalence and associated burden. Although Physiotherapy has shown to be able to manage this type of conditions, there is a gap in the knowledge of the characteristics of those who use Physiotherapy treatments in the private context, thus making it a priority to know them in order to prepare Physiotherapy care and the Physiotherapists for the needs of these users. Thus, the aims of this study were (1) to characterize people with MSK pain who resort to Physioterapy treatments in private practice, and (2) to analyze the relationship between pain intensity and MSK health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL), amd individual characteristics. Methodology: This study was carried out in two phases. The first phase integrated the construction and validation of a characterization questionnaire. The second phase was to carry out a cross-sectional observation study, integrationg a sample of individuals with MSK pain in various types of private Physiotherapy context and in various locations in Portugal. Data collection was carried out using a notebook of self-reported instruments made available to the participants, and with the completion of characterization questions adderessed to the Physiotherapist. For the first objective, descriptive statistics were used, and for the second objective, the data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coeficiente and binary logistic regression models. Results: The integrated a sample of 140 participants, predominantly female and with a mean age of 47,09 years; physically inactive, overweigh and with associated comorbilities; presence of pain in the knee or shoulder and nociceptive type; presence of psychosocial indicators and behaviors that reduce the level of activity and participation, especially related to work and daily routine. There were significant associations (p<0,05) between MSK health, HRQoL and pain intensity levels, and between high pain levels and gender, educational qualifications, household, type of work, travel time Physiotherapy, type of pain, sleep problems and presence of catastrophizing indicators and coping behaviors/ strategies. Conclusion: This study allowed the characterization of people who resort to Physiotherapy treatmens in private practice and verified significant relationships between multiple variables, which can help Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy services to improve the care provided, as well as inform the training of Physiotherapists and decisions of a professional scope.
