Abstract(s)
Purpose: The diagnosis of Stroke (AVC) is associated with a sudden state of disability, requiring referral to specific services addressing this issue, such as Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (RNCCI).Inpatient at RNCCI is aimed at maximizing function, seeking to empower patients to the activities of daily living (ADLs) and management of the challenges inherent to returning to the home context, including physical aspects inherent to housing, but also aspects related to self-confidence and condition management. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess whether the level of independence in activities of daily living (ADLs) of individuals who suffered a stroke and underwent a rehabilitation stay of at least 30 days, changed between 7 to 10 days after discharge and three months after returning home. Subsequently, this follow-up sought to evaluate whether the level of self-efficacy of individuals at the first assessment was correlated with their level of functionality three months after returning home. Methods: A longitudinal observational study was carried out with two follow-ups where the level of independence in ADLs was evaluated through the Barthel Index and self-efficacy through the Questionário de Autoeficácia após AVC (Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire - SSEQ). Data were also collected regarding the characterization of the sample through a sociodemographic data form – Questionário de caracterização sociodemográfica e clínica. Results: Self-efficacy showed a strong positive correlation with functional independence in participants with higher levels of self-efficacy (r=0.736). Regarding the comparison of the level of independence in ADLs, statistically significant differences in the Barthel Index can be observed between the means at T0 and T1 (p<0.001). Conclusion: The study contributed to the increased understanding of the impact of self efficacy on the functionality of stroke survivors, highlighting it as an important factor to consider both during the rehabilitation stay in the RNCCI and in the preparation for discharge home.
