The present study aims to understand the perception that workers in a metalworking company have regarding the absence of self-protection measures. The starting question seeks to understand how metalworking employees perceive the impact of the lack of implementation of self-protection measures? From this question, the objective is to analyse workers’ perceptions of the importance of self-protection measures and related training, as well as to understand how they interpret the absence of such measures within the organisation. The theoretical approach focuses on two dimensions. On one hand, it addresses the need to understand what fire safety in buildings and self-protection measures entail. On the other hand, by identifying fire safety awareness actions as a form of self-protection measure, the study enters its second theoretical dimension, which seeks to explore the importance of professional training for fire safety and how it can help improve workers’ perceptions of this issue. To achieve the objectives and based on the theoretical assumptions, a questionnaire was developed and randomly distributed among the workers. By analysing the results obtained, it was possible to contextualise them through documentary analysis. This study made it possible to understand that workers’ perceptions of certain risks may unintentionally influence how they act in relation to those risks, potentially contributing to a lack of safety in their work environment. It also showed that training constitutes an effective means to improve understanding of the risks to which these workers are exposed regarding fire safety in their workplace.
