A Geração Z corresponde à coorte mais recente a integrar o Mercado de Trabalho, constituindo-se como o foco de recrutamento da Instituição Militar, durante a próxima década (2019-2028), em competição com outras entidades empregadoras.
Esta investigação tem como objetivo geral analisar as orientações de carreira e as expetativas profissionais da Geração Z a fim de apresentar medidas direcionadas para a sua atração e retenção nas Forças Armadas, como contributo para a sustentação da profissionalização do serviço militar.
Para o efeito, este estudo utiliza um raciocínio indutivo, com a aplicação do Inventário de Orientações de Carreira (âncoras de carreira) de Schein (1990) a uma amostra de participantes no Dia da Defesa Nacional 2019, e estabelece generalizações fundamentadas numa estratégia de investigação mista e num desenho de estudo de caso.
Os resultados da investigação apontam como principal âncora de carreira o “Estilo de Vida” – equilíbrio entre a profissão e a vida familiar, e como âncoras secundárias a “Segurança/Estabilidade”, o “Serviço/Dedicação a uma Causa”, o “Desafio Puro” e a “Competência Técnica/Funcional”.
Com base nestas âncoras e nas opções qualitativas de escolha da carreira expressas pelos participantes são sugeridas medidas para a atração e retenção dos indivíduos desta geração no regime de contrato nas Forças Armadas.
The Generation Z corresponds to the most recent cohort to be integrated in the Labour Market, becoming the focus of recruitment of the Military Institution, during the coming decade (2019-2028), competing with other employers. The general objective of this research is to analyse career orientations and the professional expectations of the Generation Z, in order to identify measures aimed at their attraction and retention in the Portuguese Armed Forces, as a contribution to support the professionalization of the military service. To this end, this study uses an inductive reasoning, with the application of Schein’s Career Orientation Inventory (career anchors) to a sample of participants in Portuguese National Defence Day 2019, and establishes generalizations based on a strategy of research and a case study design. The research results point out as the main career anchor being “Lifestyle” – balance between work and family life, and as secondary anchors "Security/Stability", "Service and Dedication to a Cause", "Pure Challenge" and "Technical/Functional Competence". Based on these anchors and on the qualitative options of career expressed by the participants, measures are suggested for the attraction and retention of individuals of this generation in the contract regime of the Portuguese Armed Forces
