Relação entre a maturação das vértebras cervicais e a mineralização dentária

Abstract(s)
Introdução: A determinação do pico de crescimento é fulcral para planear o tratamento
ortodôntico. O estudo da maturação das vértebras cervicais e da mineralização dentária
são considerados métodos fiáveis para determinar o grau de desenvolvimento de um
indivíduo.
Objetivo: Verificar a existência de relação entre a maturação das vértebras cervicais e a
mineralização dentária.
Materiais e Métodos: A amostra foi constituída por ortopantomografias e
telerradiografias de perfil de 78 doentes da Clínica Dentária Egas Moniz, com idades
entre os 8 e os 15 anos. As radiografias foram obtidas entre os anos de 2014 e 2019. Na
análise das telerradiografias, foi registado o estágio de maturação cervical de acordo com o método de Baccetti. De seguida, foram analisadas as ortopantomografias e foi registado o grau de mineralização do segundo molar inferior, de acordo com o estágio de Nolla. Os dados foram submetidos no programa SPSS e foi utilizado o teste ró de Spearman para provar a existência ou não de relação entre as variáveis.
Resultados: Da amostra total, 46 (59%) indivíduos pertenciam ao sexo feminino e 32
(49%) pertenciam ao sexo masculino. Foi verificado que na avaliação da maturação das
vértebras cervicais, em todos os estágios, a média de idades foi menor no sexo feminino.
No caso da mineralização dentária, os resultados foram semelhantes, com a exceção dos estágios 9 e 10, em que se deu o inverso. Foi verificada a relação entre a maturação das vértebras cervicais e a mineralização dentária para a amostra geral, ró= 0,887 (p<0,01), para o sexo masculino, ró= 0,892 (p<0,01), e para o sexo feminino ró=0,895 (p<0,01).
Conclusões: Foi possível concluir que existe relação entre a maturação das vértebras
cervicais e a mineralização dentária, quer a amostra seja individualizada por género,
quer esteja agrupada.
Introduction: The determinations of peak growth is essential for the orthodontic treatment planning. It has been proven that the study of the cervical vertebrae maturation is a reliable method for determining skeletal age. Studies have been carried to understand whether dental mineralization can also be a reliable method por determining peak growth. Objective: To verify the existence of a relationship between the cervical vertebrae maturations and dental mineralization. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of orthopantomographies and cephalograms of 78 patients of Clínica Dentária Egas Moniz, aged between 8 and 15 years old. The radiographs were obtained between 2014 and 2019. The cephalogram were observed and the stage of cervical vertebrae maturation was registered using de Baccetti method. Then, the orthopantomographies were analyzed and the stage of dental mineralization of the second mandibular molar was registered, according to Nolla method. The data was submitted to SPSS program and the Spearman’s rho test was used to verify the existence of relationship between the variables. Results: Out of the sample, 46 (59%) individuals were female and 32 (41%) were male. It was found that in the evaluation of the cervical vertebrae maturation, in all stages, the mean age was lower in females. In the evaluations of the dental mineralization, the results were similar, with the exception of stages 9 and 10, in which the opposite occurred. The relationship between the cervical vertebrae maturations and dental mineralization was verified for the general sample, rho=0,887 (p<0,01), for males, rho=0,892 (p<0,01), and for females rho=0,895 (p<0,01). Conclusions: It was possible to conclude that there is a relationship between the cervical vertebrae maturation and dental mineralization, whether the sample is individualized by gender, or is grouped.
