As IES sempre contribuíram para o desenvolvimento dos Países, por via do ensino e da investigação ai produzidos.
Todavia, mais recentemente o papel que representam em termos regionais e locais tem sido alvo de especial importância e intenso debate sobretudo entre políticos, economistas e académicos.
Assim é cada vez maior a tendência para acrescentar um novo papel, para além do ensino e da investigação à missão das IES, que passa pelo seu envolvimento no desenvolvimento económico e social dos territórios onde se inserem, assumindo-se estas como ativos estratégicos para a coesão e progresso regional.
Desta forma, a presente dissertação analisa a relação entre o IPS e as empresas do Distrito de Setúbal, com o objetivo de analisar e compreender, como é que esta relação pode potenciar a inovação e o desenvolvimento económico-social da região.
The HEIs has always contributed to the development of countries, whether through teaching and research produced there. However, more recently the role they play in Local and Regional terms has been the subject of special importance and intense debate especially among politicians, economists and academics. So there is a growing trend to add a new role, in addition to teaching and research on the HEIs missions, passing through their involvement in social and economic development of the territories in which they operate, assuming these like strategic assets for cohesion and regional progress. Thus, this paper analyzes the relationship between the IPS and Setubal businesses District, in order to analyze and understand how this relationship enhances the innovation and social - economic development in the region.
